Our Goal
Our goal is to form a community of environmentally conscious students, and later on scale it for the public, while making the world a cleaner place. Raising awareness about in-campus sustainability among students and even faculty members, where everyone involved can benefit and actively take part in contributing towards a greener earth.
By the simple acts done by students, we can build the bridge from environment friendliness to actual student life. A percentage of the profits gained from the app will make further impacts via donations towards environmental charities.
Getting Started
The following slides show the sign-up and login pages the user will see when entering the app.
If it’s the user’s first time using the app they will be prompted to sign up and create an account. The credentials are checked to see if an existing account is present. Once it passes this check the user will be able to select an avatar. They can either choose from the default avatars available or select their own via their phone camera gallery. Finally, they can select a unique username that will be displayed within the app (innerU). Once again, a check is to be conducted to see whether the username is in fact unique. The user can finally proceed to the app’s homepage when the check is completed.
Features
The following features are what makes SustainU one of a kind.
A points' tracker is present on the homepage that allows users to keep track of their rewards. In order to keep users motivated and engaged, positive reinforcement messages are sent daily. Additionally, a QR code scanner is implemented which will be used for verification and adding the respective points to the user’s account. Furthermore, the gamification aspect added is incorporated via a leaderboard where user’s can compete with one another and see who gets the most points. The leaderboard is reset every semester. Finally, weekly reminders are provided on the user’s homepage where they can see the available tasks to gain points. These points can be redeemed in terms of discounts from campus stores or through donations to environmentally conscious NGO’s.
